A brand-new roller disco experience has opened at High Gosforth Park. Skate Island runs every Thursday to Sunday until 31 May with family sessions, student nights, and retro disco evenings.
A brand-new roller skating experience has arrived on Gosforth's doorstep. Skate Island has set up at Newcastle Racecourse in High Gosforth Park, running every Thursday to Sunday until 31 May 2026. With family sessions, student nights, themed Friday discos, and a retro roller experience on Saturdays, there's something for all ages and abilities.
What is Skate Island?
Skate Island is a purpose-built outdoor roller rink with live DJs, street food vendors, bars, and themed events running across an eight-week season. Each ticket includes a 90-minute skating session with skate hire, so you don't need to bring your own. A waiver must be completed before skating — this can be done in advance online.
Beyond the rink, there's a Beach Club area that's free to enter for non-skaters. It includes karaoke, arcade games, live entertainment, and a sand pit with a play area for younger children — making it a viable outing even if not everyone in the group wants to skate.
Sessions and prices
The rink runs different sessions depending on the day:
Thursdays — Student Night from £10. High-energy music, late-night roller disco vibes, and discounted tickets. Popular for group socials.
Fridays — Themed Disco with tailored music, visuals, and atmosphere each week. Think throwback anthems, party classics, and big disco energy.
Saturdays are split. Family sessions run from 9am to noon (from £7.50), followed by the Retro Roller experience from noon onwards (from £15) — a fully immersive disco roller session where fancy dress is encouraged.
Sundays — Family Skate Day runs 9am to 9pm (from £7.50), with lower-volume music, a calmer atmosphere, and plenty of space for kids and adults to skate together.
All prices exclude booking fees. Tickets are available through the Skate Island website or via Fatsoma.
Food, drink, and the Beach Club
Street food vendors and a main bar are on site, plus a cocktail bar and sweet treats. The Beach Club is open to everyone with free entry — you don't need a skating ticket to enjoy the food, drinks, and entertainment. A tipi seating area is also available for private hire.
