Gosforth.live·

Whether you're visiting family in Gosforth, attending a race day at Newcastle Racecourse, or just want a base outside the city centre, there are some genuinely good places to stay in the area. The options range from a luxury independent hotel in Jesmond Dene to a characterful B&B above one of Newcastle's best pubs — plus a couple of solid mid-range hotels on the doorstep.

Here's our guide to the best places to stay in and around Gosforth.

Jesmond Dene House

Jesmond Dene House is the standout — a luxury independent hotel set in beautiful grounds at the heart of Jesmond Dene, barely a mile from Gosforth High Street. The rooms are individually designed with a contemporary country-house feel, and the award-winning Fern restaurant (led by Executive Head Chef Danny Parker) is worth a visit even if you're not staying.

Afternoon tea here is an occasion in itself. The hotel is a popular wedding and events venue, and the setting — surrounded by woodland, with the Ouseburn running through the grounds — is hard to match anywhere in Newcastle. Rooms start from around £150–£200 per night depending on the season.

Best for: Special occasions, luxury stays, fine dining, weddings.

Grand Hotel Gosforth Park

The Grand Hotel Gosforth Park is the largest hotel in the immediate Gosforth area, with 178 rooms set within the grounds of High Gosforth Park, right next to Newcastle Racecourse. It's a 4 AA Star hotel with an on-site spa (home to Beauty at Gosforth Park), a gym, heated swimming pool, restaurant, bar, and free parking.

The rooms are comfortable and well-equipped, and the hotel is well set up for conferences, weddings, and events. It's particularly convenient for race days and the annual Hoppings fair. Rooms typically start from around £70–£100 per night, with regular deals available online.

Best for: Race days, spa breaks, conferences, families wanting a pool.

The Cumberland Arms B&B

For something with more character, the Cumberland Arms in Ouseburn offers four en-suite B&B rooms above one of Newcastle's best traditional pubs. The rooms have super king-size beds, south-facing views over the Ouseburn Valley, and a relaxed, boutique feel. Breakfast is complimentary — a full cooked breakfast with local produce, delivered to your room at a time you choose.

Downstairs you have seven real ales on tap, live folk music most nights, and one of the best beer gardens in the city. Free parking is available. It's a 10-minute drive or short Metro ride from Gosforth, and the Ouseburn location puts you within walking distance of The Cluny, The Globe, and Ouseburn Farm.

Best for: Character, real ale, live music, a unique Newcastle experience.

Cairn Hotel Jesmond

The Cairn Hotel at 97-103 Osborne Road sits right on Jesmond's main restaurant and bar strip, making it a good base if you want evening options on the doorstep. The hotel has 78 rooms across two buildings, with modern amenities, free WiFi, and limited on-site parking.

The ground-floor bar and restaurant Sohe (pan-Asian) and 97 & Social are part of the same complex. It's a short walk from both Jesmond and West Jesmond Metro stations, and Gosforth is one stop north. Rooms start from around £60–£90 per night.

Best for: Jesmond nightlife, Osborne Road restaurants, Metro access.

The New Northumbria Hotel

The New Northumbria Hotel at 61-73 Osborne Road is a 55-room hotel in an elegant Jesmond townhouse. Rooms range from standard to superior and suites, all en-suite. The ground-floor Osbornes Bar serves food including a Sunday carvery, burgers, and salads.

The hotel works with City Retreat spa (directly opposite on the High Street) for guest treatments. Free self-parking, 24-hour front desk, and meeting rooms are available. A 5-minute walk to the Metro and 10 minutes on foot to the city centre. A solid, well-located mid-range choice.

Best for: Mid-range Jesmond base, business travellers, Sunday carvery.
