Gosforth.live·

Gosforth is a brilliant place to raise a family — but when you've exhausted the usual park visit and need fresh ideas, it helps to know what else is on the doorstep. From indoor soft play and creative workshops to free library sessions and outdoor adventures, there's far more going on than you might think.

Here's our round-up of the best family activities in and around Gosforth.

Soft Play

Gosforth has three solid soft play options. Hopscotch Play Cafe on the High Street is the newest, with five play zones for ages 0–12 and a licensed cafe (yes, cocktails while the kids climb). Captain Ted's on West Avenue is award-winning, with pirate-themed play and after-school clubs. And Pizza Dough Co's Playhouse at the Three Mile combines soft play with proper pizza — £5 per child for 90 minutes. See our full guide to soft plays in Gosforth for details and prices.

Best for: Rainy days, toddlers through to primary age.

Gosforth Leisure Centre Swimming

Gosforth Leisure Centre on Regent Farm Road has a 25-metre pool and a separate children's pool — perfect for family swims. Swimming lessons for children run throughout the year, and there are regular family swim sessions at affordable council-run prices. The sauna and steam room are a bonus for parents. Pop into Ardens Kitchen in Dobson House next door for a post-swim lunch.

Best for: Swimming lessons, family swim sessions, a routine weekend activity.

Canny Crafty Pottery Painting

Canny Crafty on Salters Road is a pottery painting studio where children (and adults) can choose from a wide range of ceramic shapes — mugs, bowls, animals, money banks — and paint them in their own design. Items are individually priced between £10 and £35, and sessions last around 90 minutes. Finished pieces are fired and ready to collect in 7–10 days.

Pre-school themed sessions run during the week, and birthday parties can be booked. It's a genuinely creative, screen-free activity that produces something to take home. Book ahead at weekends and school holidays.

Best for: Creative play, birthday parties, ages 3+, rainy day activity.

Gosforth Library

Gosforth Library on Regent Farm Road is a Children & Families Hub with free drop-in activities throughout the week. Under-5s Storytime runs on Tuesdays (11am–11:30am) and Fridays (10:30am–11am) during term time — a lovely free activity for babies and toddlers. There's also a free Lego Club during term time for ages 4+ with all materials provided.

One-off events and workshops are listed on Newcastle Libraries' Eventbrite page. No booking needed for regular sessions — just turn up.

Best for: Free activities, babies and toddlers, Lego Club, rainy days.

Gosforth Civic Theatre Family Shows

The Gosforth Civic Theatre on Regent Farm Road runs family shows and film screenings regularly, typically at weekends. Recent highlights include Wrongsemble's Rapunzel and Kid Carpet's Jack & The Beanstalk — both aimed at ages 3+ with tickets around £10 per person (babes in arms free). Family film screenings during half-terms are another great option.

The theatre also runs free activities for young people Monday to Wednesday evenings. Check their what's on page for the latest programme.

Best for: Live theatre for young children, half-term film screenings.

Parks and Playgrounds

Gosforth's parks are a family essential. Paddy Freeman's Park has the best playground (swings, climbing frames, a play ship, plus a lake and cafe), and connects to Jesmond Dene for longer walks. Gosforth Central Park behind the shopping centre has free tennis and basketball courts alongside a play area. And the Town Moor is perfect for bike rides, kite flying, and burning off energy on a grand scale. See our full parks guide for details.

Best for: Outdoor play, free days out, weekend mornings.

Town Moor Parkrun

Town Moor parkrun is a free 5K every Saturday at 9am — and it's not just for adults. Children can run, jog, or walk with a parent or guardian (under-11s must be accompanied). It's a brilliant family habit to build, the route is scenic across the Moor, and there's a strong community atmosphere. Completely free — just register once on the parkrun website and bring your barcode.

Best for: Active families, free weekend routine, ages 4+.
